Chapel Outon Farmhouse is the ideal base from which to explore our unspoilt and relatively undiscovered Peninsular in South West Scotland.  From the 7th Century pilgrims travelled to Whithorn in honour of St Ninian, Scotlands first Saint.  Scottish Kings and Queens came on pilgrimage and made offerings at a shrine sited in the vicinity of Chapel Outon and which was later used as a place of worship by the Covenanters.  Follow in their footsteps and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this special part of Galloway.

Explore our historic places and buildings:  Whithorn Priory, St Ninian’s Chapel and Cave, Drumtrodden Stones,  Rispain Camp, Cruggleton Castle and Sorbie Tower.  The Martyrs Cross and Torhouse Stone Circle in Wigtown to name but a few.

Have a relaxing round (or more) of golf or go fresh water or sea angling.

Visit our local gardens, at Garlieston, Claymoddie, Glenwhan, Castle Kennedy and Logan, just a few of the many gardens growing an abundance of unusual plants due to our mild climate.

Enjoy a stroll on one of our local beaches, an amble in our forests or for the more ambitious scale one of the Galloway Hills.  Try our cycle routes including the 7 Stanes.

Go star gazing in the UK’s first Dark Skies Park – Galloway Forest Park.

Watch Golden Eagles soar overhead or go on a Wild Goose Chase or follow the progress of our Ospreys at Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve.  Marvel at our roaring stags, wild goats, red kites, otters and seals.

Take a tour and a wee dram at Bladnoch Distillery.  Visit Monreith Animal World or the many bookshops in Scotland’s Book Town – Wigtown which holds its annual Book Festival in late September/early October.

Unesco has designated our local area as a Biosphere. To learn more and begin your exploration of our unique and very special part of Scotland go to www.gallowayandsouthernayrshirebiosphere.org.uk

Take the road to ‘The Isle’ of Whithorn.

And there’s more!  Come and see for yourself!

Or simply relax and let us spoil you and pamper your pet.
